Enrollment For the 2026/2027 School Year Open!!
Taught by Jen Lade
Middle School Social Studies will focus on geography, economics, and American history in the coming year. The history portion will pick up in the late 1800s, as a continuation of last year's study of American history.
Unit studies will run for 5-6 weeks, with each week allowing for a look at different aspects of the historical period, including daily life, government, geography, philosophy/beliefs, economics and technology. The planned unit studies are as follows:
1. Reconstruction after the Civil War
2. Gilded Age/WWI
3. The Roaring Twenties
4. The Great Depression
5. WWII
6. The Civil Rights Movement
Class time will be split between lectures, guest speakers, hands-on activities, read-alouds, and assessments.
In addition, we will study economics through the implementation of a "classroom economy," which will become the testing ground for economic principles such as supply and demand, trade, taxes, and more.
Homework for social studies will be assigned most weeks and should take between 1 to 2 hours per week. Unit projects will be assigned about 5 times per year and could consist of 4-7 hours of work outside of class.
Class will run Tuesdays 1:15-2:30 In-Person Only
Students are asked to bring a writing utensil and a binder or folder to hold worksheets. Some unit projects will require craft materials at home, such as poster board or markers.
Middle school Social Studies is offered as part of our complete Middle School program OR as a stand alone class with a monthly cost of $67.
There is a one time material fee of: $40
